The River’s Edge Ranch: Restoring Lives Through Faith, Work, and Community

For men struggling with addiction, hope can feel out of reach. The River’s Edge Ranch (RER) is a faith-based, non-medical substance abuse recovery center that provides a path to healing and transformation. Located in Lucerne Valley, California, this working ranch offers a structured, one-year program designed to help men break free from addiction, rebuild their lives, and restore their faith.

A Place for Second Chances

Since 2007, The River’s Edge Ranch has provided men with a unique multi-phase recovery program that integrates:

  • Manual labor – Instilling a sense of responsibility and discipline
  • Animal-assisted therapy – Caring for livestock to develop patience and empathy
  • Service to others – Giving back to the community through outreach programs
  • Faith-based mentorship – Guiding men through spiritual and emotional restoration

This holistic approach doesn’t just address addiction—it helps men develop life skills, find purpose, and transition back into society with confidence.

Who We Serve

We welcome adult men from all walks of life—including veterans, parolees, the homeless, and those referred by family, churches, or community organizations—who are committed to turning their lives around. Many arrive at the Ranch having lost everything, but they leave with renewed hope and a clear path forward.

A Legacy of Transformation

Founded by “Big Al” and Pastor Gary Hornsby, The River’s Edge Ranch started as a vision to turn a barren 20-acre property into a place of healing. Over the years, the Ranch has grown into a thriving recovery program, offering transitional housing, job training, and long-term support for its graduates.

Montrell’s Story: Healing Through Faith and Community

Montrell Jackson’s journey is a powerful testament to the Ranch’s impact. Growing up in Pomona, California, Montrell fell into addiction at just 11 years old. After 15 years of struggling, he hit rock bottom and sought help.

At The River’s Edge Ranch, Montrell learned the power of faith, surrender, and perseverance. He rebuilt his relationships and strengthened his spiritual foundation, and today, he continues his journey with a renewed purpose—proving that recovery is possible.

Support Our Mission
