Christian Socialism on Born To Win with Ronald L Dart
Christian Socialism on Born To Win with Ronald L Dart

Tune in this Sunday at 9:30 AM to hear Ronald L. Dart with Born To Win speak on whether Socialism is compatible with Christianity.

Many of us have been intrigued for some time by the efforts of many Christians to delineate their political identity. Historically uninvolved in politics, the emergence of Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority marked a significant shift in the political landscape.

Today, we find a Christian right and a Christian left in this country, a somewhat disquieting development. Nancy Pearcey, in her book “Total Truth: Liberating Christianity from Its Cultural Captivity,” passionately argues that Christians should not allow themselves to be sidelined. This challenges those who prefer to keep Christianity confined to the private sphere, away from the public eye.

Now, as Christians awaken to the idea that their faith should influence their voting decisions, opposing voices are emerging. Most churches and ministries, as non-profit organizations, are prohibited from endorsing specific candidates or ballot issues. This raises important questions about the limits of preaching on moral issues such as abortion.

While we must adhere to these rules, we also have every right to engage in discussions about principles in church, in print, or on the air. The extent to which churches will be allowed to condemn immoral behavior remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the question persists: where do Christians fit in the political spectrum? Are they more conservative or liberal? Are they more socialist or nationalist? Are Christians, politically, striving for a just society or a compassionate one, and what sets these two apart, if anything?
