Dr. Beckwith’s Newest Book

In the ever-changing landscape of social services, the challenges to maintaining a regional organization like Lutheran Social Services of Southern California (LSSSC) are numerous. That fact has never slowed down Dr. LaSharnda Beckwith, President and CEO of LSSSC, an 80-year-old organization with offices stretching from down south in San Diego County to up north in the San Fernando Valley of LA, and many places in between. Leading an organization with close to 200 employees spread over 15 service offices, Dr. Beckwith maintains a confident positivity rooted in her faith in the provision of Jesus, and boldly displays her life verse, Jeremiah 29:11 in her office:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future…”

Beyond the daily mission to embrace, equip, and empower vulnerable individuals, families, and communities toward self-sufficiency, Dr. Beckwith shares a weekly inspirational message with LSSSC’s followers every Friday where she reveals the pearls of wisdom from God’s Word that inspire her. As an accomplished author, Dr. Beckwith has a lot to say about the importance of staying in God’s Word. 

Her most recent book, titled Finding Hope: Reflections on Gratitude, Faith, and Resilience, centers on the truths she’s learned in her career that still carry her through the challenges of leading a large nonprofit: economic changes, large building projects, and, yes, even a global pandemic. Readers might be surprised to learn that an accomplished, high-level professional like Dr. Beckwith must still be reminded by God to “be anxious for nothing”, to “cast her cares upon Him”, and to learn to “lean not on her own understanding”, listening for His gentle leading.
